#018 | Craziest Notion Update that Everyone Missed

AI can now take action inside your workspace! Update task deadlines based on meeting notes? You bet! See how...

In partnership with

Notion Kits

The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland. It was apparently chosen because of its connection with dominance and chivalry, as well as purity and innocence in Celtic mythology.

In this week’s Notion Kit:

  • Setup your ultimate AI + Notion workflow (<5 mins) — Jump to Tutorial

  • 💣 Test your knowledge — Who wrote Atomic Habits?

  • If only I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard the phrase “vibe coding” this week…

  • Humanoids delivering your Amazon packages?!?

Notion Kit #018 | Craziest Notion Update that Everyone Missed

AI until now has excelled at summarizing, generating new text content, and creating lightweight databases.

But it hasn’t been intelligent or capable enough to take a broad command like:

“Look at my meeting notes and adjust task due dates if delays or updates relating to them were mentioned.”

...and actually change the date properties right in front of your eyes.

Until now 😉

The update Notion announced was their own MCP (Model Context Protocols).

It’s an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context to LLMs.

💡 In English, it allows LLMs like Claude (ChatGPT’s competitor) to connect to Notion, read data from your workspace, and even take action inside it.

This week kicks off a 6-part Notion Kit series covering practical use cases for Notion’s MCP!

Starting with the setup.

Which is 100% free and slightly technical, but I’ll simplify and break it down for you 🙂

Let’s jump in!

👉 Click HERE to duplicate this Notion template to your workspace (we’ll use it in next week’s example)

🛠 What You’ll Need to Set Up Notion MCP:

  1. Download Claude (Anthropic’s AI Assistant) and create a free account if you don’t already have one

  2. Download Node.js > Choose your operating system installer > Follow the standard installation process.

    • You don’t need to understand Node.js. Just install it, and Claude handles the rest.

  3. Go to notion.so/profile/integrations > Click “New Integration” > Give it a name (like “Claude MCP”) > Select your workspace > Save your secret token (you’ll need this later)

  4. Go to github.com/makenotion/notion-mcp-server > Scroll to the “Installation” section > Copy the MCP configuration snippet that looks like this:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "notionApi": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@notionhq/notion-mcp-server"],
      "env": {
        "OPENAPI_MCP_HEADERS": "{\"Authorization\": \"Bearer ntn_****\", \"Notion-Version\": \"2022-06-28\" }"
      }
    }
  }
}

*Meaning the skill you just gained from this Notion Kit can become even more powerful when paired with one of these other skills below:

  • Imagine AI Meeting Notes recording and transcribing a work meeting, and then using the setup from this Kit to intuitively update your task database based on what was discussed. 🤯

  • Turn your task database into a timeline view and let this new setup prioritize timelines based on what needs to be done first!
